How to Apply for a V5C Using a V62 Form

If you’ve bought a vehicle but haven’t received the V5C registration certificate (log book), or if it’s been lost, stolen, or damaged, you can apply for a replacement using a V62 form from the DVLA.

What You’ll Need:

  • The V62 application form (can be downloaded from the DVLA website or picked up from a Post Office).

  • £25 fee (unless you’re applying as the new keeper and the previous owner didn’t send off the V5C).

  • The vehicle’s registration number, VIN/chassis number, and make/model.

How to Apply:

  1. Fill in the V62 form:

    • Complete all sections relevant to your situation.

    • Tick the box for the reason you’re applying (e.g., “I have not received the V5C”).

    • Include the date you bought the vehicle and the seller’s name/address if you recently bought it.

  2. Pay the fee (if required):

    • Enclose a cheque or postal order for £25 made payable to ‘DVLA Swansea’.

    • If you’re applying as the new keeper and you already sent Section 10 of the V5C to the DVLA, no fee is required — just include a note with the date it was sent.

  3. Send the form and payment to:

    DVLA
    Swansea
    SA99 1DD

What Happens Next:

  • You should receive your new V5C within 4 to 6 weeks.

  • If the DVLA needs more information, they may contact you or the previous keeper.
